Fossil Douvilliceras Ammonite Fossil
This spectacular ammonite is a Douvilleiceras from Madagascar which has been gently polished.
The intricate suturing pattern which provided strength to the ammonite is well evident.
Note as well the linear structure evident at the midline. This is the siphuncule, an integral part of the ammonite’s “ballast system”. T
he ammonite moved freely at depth by pumping water in and out by means of the siphuncule.
It is a stunning example of an ammonite from fossil deposits of Madagascar, one that is sure to be the centerpiece of any ammonite collection.
